Speaking at the November 14 function at Hyatt Regency, Port of Spain, Massy Technologies’s HSE Manager Gail Figaro, stressed the importance of continuous improvement after winning. “This award is not proof that we have arrived at our highest point, but it shows that we have achieved a particular standard and must work at maintaining or surpassing that standard.”

AmChamTT, in a statement issued on November 24, said Figaro had some advice for companies still striving for HSE Excellence.

“While numbers and statistics play a part in HSE, it is more about making the 18-inch journey from the head to the heart, and figuring out how to get people involved and having the space to align a company’s HSE goals with the individual needs of its employees. So in short companies must anchor themselves in honesty, creativity and innovation,” Figaro said.

Scotiabank told Newsday, “We are very happy to be recognised for our environmental sustainability initiatives. As a bank, we are committed to helping preserve the environment for generations to come and helping our communities become better off.”

AmChamTT’s HSE awards celebrates companies that exemplify HSE excellence integrated with business excellence, and is an integral part of the chamber’s focus on championing for HSE excellence in the workplace.

“The number of entrants competing has grown steadily throughout the years, which is a positive indication that companies are committed to implementing HSE best practices in their organisations,” AmChamTT said.

The main objective of this awards scheme is the promotion of robust occupational health, safety and environmental management systems by companies, and to recognise related achievements.

“The (HSE) Award lends distinction and prestige to its recipients who will be acknowledged not only as business leaders, but as recognising the value of protecting employees and the environment,” AmChamTT declared.
