Always think of what your desired result is when embarking on a new project. The advice came from Johnny Carrington who recently retired as Manager of Project Implementation at TSTT.

“The people who are there now have to realise that working is not just the salary but it is about looking at the end product,” said Carrington who worked with TSTT for 40 years. He shared his insights during a recent function to celebrate the achievement of 54 employees, Carrington included, who retired from the company.

Speaking at the event held at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, several retirees reflected on the family atmosphere they experienced while working at TSTT. Nizam Shah, who goes on pre-retirement leave after 33 years and who will retire as manager of Field Services North East, described the celebration as typical of the company.

“TSTT is really caring and very family-oriented. I have been in technology for 30 of the 33 years I worked at TSTT and the telephone technology has changed at least ten times. Every two or three years, something changes, so you are always doing something different.” Fellow retirees, Bernadette Smart and Carrington, also reflected on the family-like atmosphere.

“We had that family togetherness,” Smart said. Carrington reflected on TSTT having, “always functioned to me as a family kind of company. Everybody behaved like family. I went into the company and met it like that and it has continued throughout.” Smart said she is looking forward to, “doing a little travelling”, and spending time looking after her grandchildren. Shah is planning a trip to Chile.

“There comes a time in life when the body calls for a rest. I am comfortable that I have served honestly and diligently and it’s time to pass the baton,” Carrington said.
