Central cops recover stolen van, 400 rounds of ammunition

Minutes after a Cunupia man was robbed of his van on Tuesday night, Central Division police recovered the van and detained a father and son for the the robbery. The police also found several rounds of ammunition.

At about 8.20 pm on Tuesday, 24-year-old Vishal Mahabir of Warren Munroe Road, Cunupia, was on his way to visit relatives close to his home when he was approached by two men, one armed with a gun, who robbed him of his pick-up. He reported it to the Cunupia police and officers on patrol found the van abandoned a short distance from where it was taken.

Police went to Rasheed Avenue and searched an apartment where they allegedly found the two suspects, 47 and 21.

They also allegedly found 49 rounds of 5.56 ammunition, 46 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and 99 rounds of .38 ammunition.

The suspects were taken into custody and are expected to be placed on identification parades for a series of robberies in the Central division.
