Foreigner, 2 Trinis in court

One of three men arrested in a car park for allegedly having marijuana in their possession on Sunday was on Monday remanded into custody at the Immigration Detention Centre in Aripo. A Dominica national and two Trinis appeared in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court Monday evening and pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Alicia Chankar. According to police, PCs Cardinal and Bledman of Southern Division Task Force went to the car park of V’s Casino at Union Hall, Cross Crossing and arrested the trio in vehicles.

Police allegedly found two packets which contained 1.06 kilos of marijuana in a Hyundai Elantra as well as 523 grammes in a Toyota Hilux. Police estimated the illegal narcotics have a street value of $16,000.

Arrested are a 32-year-old Dominican, a 47-year-old man of Retrench Village in San Fernando and a 27-year-old man of La Brea. PC Cardinal laid the charge. Magistrate Chankar granted bail to the Trinis at $100,000 and $150,000 and adjourned the matter to December 11. She denied bail to the foreigner who was remanded into police custody to return to court on Monday.
