Bank teller charged with fraud

A 25-year-old bank teller, who allegedly attempted to defraud Republic Bank Limited of almost $29,100, appeared in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court yesterday. The three charges against him allegedly occurred on dates between August 28 and September 1 at Republic Bank’s High Street, Princes Town branch, where he is employed. It is alleged the teller and two other people conspired to defraud the bank by presenting three cheques.

All three cheques were deemed fraudulent.

Yesterday, the accused appeared before Magistrate Diop and was not called upon to plead as the charges were laid indictably.

The magistrate granted the teller $50,000 bail to be approved by a clerk of the peace and adjourned the case to Monday.
