Prisoner found dead at Golden Grove prison

A 29-year-old remand prisoner was found dead in his cell early Sunday by prison officers at the Golden Grove prison.

Reports are that at about 6.10 am, officers were patrolling an area of the remand section when they saw Michael George lying on the floor.

A source revealed George was in a cell by himself and there were no marks of violence on his body.

Members of the Northern Division police were called and senior Superintendent Daniel, Superintendent David, Inspector Fuentes and district medical officer Vinod Mahabir, visited the scene. The body was removed to the Forensic Science Centre where an autopsy is expected to be done today.

Acting Prisons Commissioner William Alexander confirmed the death of the prisoner and said that relatives were informed.
