Drugs, guns found during weekend raids

A 32-year-old San Juan man was held with a KelTec pistol, seven rounds of .9 mm ammunition and 72 grammes of marijuana by members of the San Juan Criminal Investigations Department (CID) on Friday night.

According to a statement issued by the police yesterday, their members were on patrol at Eastern Main Road in San Juan when they saw a Nissan Wingroad car which they searched when they found the items. During a separate police exercise on Saturday officers of the Maracas Bay Police Station executed a search warrant at Old Bay Road, at the home of a 26-year-old man where they found 20 grammes of cocaine hidden in a shoe.

The man was arrested.

In the Maracas area, they visited another house, believed to be abandoned, where they found three packages each containing 1.3 kg of marijuana, one revolver and a round of .38 ammunition. No one was arrested.

In another incident, four men were arrested at Race Course Road, Carapo when they attempted to flee from members of the La Horquetta police station.

Police said Ag Cpl Justin Durity and PC Keron George were on patrol at about 9.45 pm when they saw two cars, a silver Nissan Tiida and a white Nissan AD Wagon.

They stopped the driver of the AD Wagon, but the driver of the Tiida attempted to escape but was stopped a short distance away.

The police searched the vehicles and found a pistol with a magazine containing five rounds of .9mm ammunition in the Tiida.

The driver of the AD Wagon and the three occupants of the Tiida; a 26-year-old and a 25-year-old, both of La Horquetta and a 17-year-old of Maloney Gardens, were arrested.
