Bandit caught in five minutes

An 18-year-old bandit enjoyed exactly five minutes of freedom after his alleged assault and robbery of a 29-year-old woman in La Romaine on Thursday, according to a release issued by the police yesterday.

Reports state that the woman was seated in her vehicle at the Gulf City Mall carpark shortly before 1 pm on Thursday when she was assaulted and robbed of two handbags containing $40,000.

The woman promptly reported the incident to the police and PCs Ameer Ali and Sandeep Maharaj of the San Fernando CID responded within five minutes. The woman pointed out the two assailants a short distance away who fled upon seeing the officers.

One of the suspects threw the handbags into a grey Hyundai Elantra motorcar and fled the scene on foot, while the other drove off but was intercepted a short distance away.
