Chaguanas cops nab 3 in bar robbery

UPDATED:

Quick thinking and a swift response from the Chaguanas Criminal Investigations Department led to the arrest of three men in connection with a bar robbery early yesterday morning.
According to reports, at around 3 am, three men broke into Toby’s Bar on Hugh Street, Montrose, Chaguanas.

The men began emptying the cash register and tried to open one of the roulette machines in the bar’s waiting area.

Newsday spoke to owner and proprietor Kurt Ramdass, who said he was at his home nearby and happened to check the security camera footage on his laptop, when he saw the men behind the counter of the bar.

“I knew that the place was already locked up and staff doesn’t come in until later on in the morning, so I knew what I was seeing was a robbery in progress,” he said.

Ramdass said he left home and went to the bar, notifying police along the way. He said by the time he arrived police had already responded and placed the men on the ground. Sources confirmed that approximately $15,000 had been taken from the cash register. Ramdass commended the police for their work and said the arrest sent a strong message to criminals.
