No TB outbreak at Cumana Anglican

All pupils of Cumana Anglican Primary were tested for the highly contagious tuberculosis last week after one pupil was hospitalised for the disease. All the tests were negative.

An official of the school’s supervisory division told Newsday health officials were called into the school after parents raised concern that some children might have contracted the disease.

On October 24, students were screened for the disease including three suspected of contracting it. Tests on the three, however, proved negative after the screening and further testing.

The official said that to allay the fears of parents, the school’s administration was advised to have the school sanitised.

Two parents, who preferred anonymity, told Newsday that they were concerned after permission was sought for their children to be screened for the disease last Tuesday and they had no further word from the school.
