ELECTIONS APPROVED: Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar and other members of the UNC await the start of the party’s national congress held yesterday at the Shiva Boys’ Hindu College,Penal.

The national congress of the United National Congress yesterdy unamiously approved a proposal by the party’s national executive to hold elections for both the political leader and the natex on November 26, 2017.

The congress, held at the Shiva Boys’ Hindu College, Clarke Road, Penal, was attended by a large contingent of supporters, who all unamiously voted by a show of hands, cheers, whistles and horns when asked by chairman David Lee if they were in support of the decisison by the natex to hold the elections.

The vote was so overwhelming general secretary Dave Tancoo asked supporters to sit and then asked whether there was anyone who was against gthe decision. No one stood up.

Chaguanas MP Ganga Singh, who raised concerns about the constitutionality of the date proposal, and who sat with the other MPs, remained seated and silent.

After the decision was approved, the party held a meeting with several front line members including, Dr Suruj Rambachan and Dr Roodal Moonilal.
