Two banned from Parliament

Two individuals who were involved in a row that disrupted Thursday’s sitting of the Senate have been banned from the Parliament.

In a statement last night, Speaker of the House of Representatives instructed that Maxine Gonzales and Robert Sagramsingh not be admitted into the Parliament’s precincts. Photos of Gonzales and Sagramsingh accompanied the statement.

The statement said the ban prevented Gonzales and Sagramsingh from accessing the Parliament Chamber, public gallery, media gallery and all other rooms in the Parliament Building used for committee meetings. All police officers employed at the Parliament are empowered directly and/or through the Office of the Marshal, to remove Gonzales and Sagramsingh from the Parliament’s precincts, in compliance with the order, should they attempt to enter.

The order was issued in accordance with Section 6 (1) of the House of Representatives (Powers and Privileges) Act and Standing Order 123 of the House.
