Parangoke is born

Rene Guera Charles, third-place.

Patrons at Kaiso Blues Cafe in Newtown joined in a "parangoke" with seasoned parranderos last weekend. The event work two-fold –firstly patrons called a song and popular parang band Los Alumnos De San Juan then played it. This was followed by patrons joining the band and singing a parang song of their choice.

Nisha Atwell in second place.

Noel Espenoza won the first prize of $1,000 for his rendition of Andes Parrandero, coming in a close second place was Nisha Atwell with Rio Manzanares and Rene Guerra-Charles third with Bilamos.

Los Alumnos' leader Alicia Jaggasar showed resilience and strength to pull of the show as she had buried her mother the day before. She could have postponed the event but instead chose to carry on knowing that is what her mother would have wanted.
