Decrease in road traffic accidents and fatalities

Acting ASP Kissoon Badloo yesterday said there has been a decrease in road traffic accidents and fatalities.

Badloo, of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch was speaking yesterday at the weekly press briefing at the Police Administration Building in Port of Spain. He said there has been a seven per cent decrease in accidents this year in comparison to 2016.

He said for the year so far there have been 82 accidents as compared to 88 in 2016.

“There have been 92 fatalities compared to 100 last year. There is an eight per cent decrease with regards to deaths.”

Badloo said DUI testing as well as the use of the radar speed guns were very instrumental in their aim to make the roads safer.

He said the Police Service is in the process of getting nine more speed guns for use within the nine divisions.

“We are doing training now. We are doing some work with the speed guns. I think they are here but not ready for use just yet.

“There are things which must be put in place before they can be used.”
