Two men were arrested by officers from the Eastern Division Task Force and Valencia police following a search of two houses which yielded a quantity of marijuana and two firearms on the weekend.
Sources said that Eastern Division police, acting on information, yesterday went to Palm Road in Valencia and during a search of two houses, found a Smith & Wesson pistol 11 rounds of nine-millimetre calibre bullets and 508 kilos of compressed marijuana worth over $500,000. Two men, one from Palm Road, Valencia and the other from Mt Zion in Arima were arrested.
The men were taken to the Valencia Police Post where they were interrogated and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and 11 rounds of ammunition and possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking. Charges were laid by PC Benoit. The two are expected to appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate today.
