Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal demanded to know the names of the applicants for upscale public housing units at Victoria Keys in Diego Martin but instead got a tongue lashing from Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Stuart Young, momentarily stepping in for Housing Minister Randal Mitchell.

The sharp exchange took place on Thursday as the Lower House Standing Finance Committee examined the Budget allocation to the Housing Ministry.

Examining a $180 million allocation for the Accelerated Housing Programme, Moonilal asked Mitchell his policy on housing distribution? Mitchell replied that this issue was not included under that line item.

Moonilal then pressed to ask the names of the successful applicants to the Victoria Keys project and the cost spent to build each unit? Again, Mitchell said this query was not applicable to the line item.

An irate Moonilal shot, “So, you’ll talk about construction but not about distribution?” He asked how much money was owed to all contractors who had built any public housing?

Young stepped in, saying, “No, that’s under investigation. Everything in the HDC (Housing Development Corporation under your tenure is under investigation.”
