In its bid to offset expenses, the Trinidad and Tobago Chinese Steel Ensemble will be hosting its first ever Pan and Parang fund-raiser.

The brunch fundraiser takes place at The Chaconia Hotel, Saddle Road, Maraval, on November 5. Brunch will be served from 11am to 1 pm.

Entertainment will be provided by the and Los Angeles de San Miguel.

“The funds go towards expenses for the band, maintenance of equipment, arrangements, uniforms,” says Ken Chang On, president of the band.

In a media release he said the band has a few sponsors to whom they are grateful, “but we also need to raise funds from time to time.”

More importantly, Chang On said: “It also gives supporters an opportunity to spend some time with us, listen to our repertoire and meet the new faces in the band.”

The Chinese Steel Ensemble was formally launched in July 2006 on the occasion of the 200th Anniversary of Chinese Arrival in Trinidad and Tobago. Its repertoire includes a fusion of Chinese and Local Cultures and is the first ever “all Chinese steelband in TT”.

Since its formation, the band has created a name for itself performing at many cultural events both locally and internationally.

Contribution is $250 per ticket and limited tickets are available from all band members.
