It was much of the same yesterday as the Trinidad and Tobago men’s hockey team continued their winning ways but the women’s squad lost yet again, on the third day of the 2017 Indoor Pan American Hockey Cup at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Georgetown, Guyana.

The TT men’s team earned their third straight win in this campaign courtesy of a come-from-behind 8-2 hammering of Barbados, with Akim Toussaint and Jordan Vieira both netting hat-tricks.

The Bajans went ahead in the fifth minute through Neil Franklyn’s penalty before TT responded in convincing fashion.

Jordan Reynos levelled the scores in the ninth minute before Toussaint scored twice before the half-time interval, in the 18th and 19th. Vieira got his name on the scoresheet three times in the space of 16 minutes, in the 23rd, 36th and 39th, but Che Warner pulled one back in the 39th. However, Toussaint completed his treble, in the 40th.

On the other side of the coin, the national women’s squad suffered their fourth defeat in a row, as they were beaten 3-0 by Canada. Kathleen Leahy notched a pair, in the 20th and 31st, before Shannon Pereira ended the scoring in the 32nd.

The winners from the respective men’s and women’s categories will advance to the 2018 Women’s Indoor Hockey World Cup, which will be contested in Berlin, Germany.

Today, the TT women’s outfit will square off against hosts Guyana from 2 pm while the national men’s team will battle Mexico from 3.15 pm.
