Bedassie is North Zone Secondary Schools Cricketer of the Year

Narvin Bedassie was named the North Zone Secondary Schools Cricketer of the Year. He received the award at a ceremony held at City Hall, Port of Spain.

The ceremony was attended by PoS Mayor Joel Martinez, Education Ministry Adviser Cheryl Ann Wilkinson, and Agnes Lara-Cyrus, sister of cricket legend Brian Lara,.

Bedassie, the prolific under-19 Queen’s Royal College student, scored over 500 runs including two centuries during the just concluded season. Leading by example, the QRC skipper guided his team to the Senior Division title and a place in next year’s Championship Division.

After receiving his award, Bedassie said he was very humbled to be selected but was even happier that QRC returned to the highest level of secondary school cricket.

Amir Jangoo, a former Fatima College student, was named Sports Personality of the Year (male) while Holy Name Convent’s Georgia Lee Gill was the female recipient.

Jangoo a national player, was also inducted into the North Zone Cricket Hall of Fame.

The Chairman’s Award for the Most Destructive Player of The Year went to Leon Bassano of St Mary’s College.

St Mary’s won both the under-13 and under-14 titles, while last year’s champions Fatima repeated in the under-16 age group.

QRC claimed the senior boys title and St Francios Girl’s College took the girls crown.

Fatima and St Mary’s were joint winners of the Under-17 knockout title while Tranquillity Government and Diego Martin North were joint winners of the Under-19 division.

Holy Name won the Girls Under-15 knockout after beating St Francois, while Success Laventille edged Tranquillity to take the Flow Under-19 title.

St Mary’s won the Powergen knockout in the under-14 and under-15 age brackets.
