Tobago Forwards elects new executive

Political leader of the Tobago Forwards Christlyn Moore has committed to working with her new team following the party’s 2017 internal elections.

Following months of delay, the elections, held on Friday at the auditorium of the Bishop’s High School in Mt Marie, Scarborough, recorded a total of 39 voters.

The election, which got off to a slow start at 9 am, intensified just around 11 am. Moore, whose position was not contested, described the process as “smooth” after the results were announced.

“The election process was smooth, the participants were enthusiastic. They really exercised some patience because we got off to a late start but nobody was agitated, people waited and they renewed old acquaintances and so it went extremely, extremely smoothly. I don’t think it could have gone any better.

“I am extremely satisfied by that because it tells us that people continue to be committed to the Tobago Forwards and they continue to want us to be a part of the political landscape and so we are humbled by that and we have to live up to the expectations of the public, if not exceed that.”

Moore said with the elections completed, the party would now “hit the ground running.”

“Next week, this new executive will meet and start the planning which will take us into the next twelve months. The outgoing executive will finalise its various reports and then we will meet for our annual general meeting in four to six weeks where the report of the outgoing executive will be presented and the plans for the new executive will be presented, as well as comments, suggestions from the membership.”

In the nine positions up for grabs, Orwin Dillon successfully grabbed the title of chairman while Kevon McKenna became deputy chairman. Barry Nelson and Sparkle Taylor were elected as deputy political leaders while Maria MacFarlane-Williams will serve as general secretary. The role of assistant general secretary was assigned to Camille Cromarty while the party treasurer is Akiesha Noray, Pearl Duke-Orr is assistant party treasurer and Kelton Thomas became election officer.
