Presentation College San Fernando are no longer the leaders of the Secondary Schools Football League Premier Division after falling to a 3-0 defeat to the hands of defending champions Shiva Boys Hindu College at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, yesterday.

The result paved a way for Naparima College to take the top spot when they recorded a crucial 1-0 home win over the previously unbeaten San Juan North Secondary.

In the top of the table clash between the current leaders and former leaders, the match started off tense as both teams tried not to make any errors and battled for the possession to control the game.

After a quiet first half which ended 0-0, Shiva Boys came out the dressing room with more urgency and they applied the pressure as they looked sharper on the ball.

The first breakthrough came in the 55th minute when Shiva’s Simmeon Debourgh latched on to a loose ball in the 18 yard and sent a powerful shot past Presentation’s goalkeeper. Yohanese Richardson then doubled Shiva Boys’ lead after brilliantly placing his free-kick into the back of the net in the 75th minute. Junior Asson added the third and final blow in the 93rd minute when he rounded Presentation’s last defender then lobbed the custodian to secure the victory. Presentation are now second on the table with 25 points while Shiva are fourth on 23 points after 11 games.

Naparima College made a quick start to their game and went ahead through Juda St Louis who slotted home a penalty kick in the second minute of the game.

San Juan North had visited the southerners as the only team undefeated thus far in the tournament, however, they left with nothing as Naps held on to the lead and claimed all three points. Naps now lead the standings with 26 points after 11 games while San Juan North remain in fifth with 18 points. Trinity East traveled to St Anthony’s where they lost 3-2 as the “Westmoorings Tigers” held on to third position with 24 points.

Elsewhere, Queens Royal College (QRC) demolished St Benedict’s College 4-1 in Debe while Fatima edged St Augustine Secondary 1-0 in St Augustine. Carapichaima East entertained Fyzabad where they defeated the visitors 2-1 at home. St Mary’s College (CIC) were held to a 3-3 draw by Trinity Moka in St Clair, while Signal Hill and Speyside also rallied to a 2-2 draw in their Tobagonian encounter.
