Inshan Ishmael released

Political activist and television talk show host Inshan Ishmael, who was detained by Chaguanas police on Thursday, was released on Friday pending further inquires.

Ishmael and a small group of people protested outside the Divali Nagar site on Thursday allegedly jeering police about their decision to make a two-way road a one-way route. Ishmael claimed he was not consulted since he has interest in property close to the site and this decision affected his ability to get to and from the property.

Ishmael and others allegedly tried to prevent the police from directing traffic to deal with the influx of people entering the site, at about 5 pm. Ishmael was detained and taken into custody.

Investigators said recently a report was made to Chaguanas police about an incident at the ASJA complex in Charlieville in which Ishmael is alleged to have pointed his licensed firearm at a man during an altercation. That investigation is ongoing.
