Another woman has died during childbirth at the San Fernando General Hospital.

She is Michelle Boodoo, 27, of Victoria Village, San Fernando. South West Regional Health Authority CEO Gail Miller-Meade has confirmed a probe has started into the death of this first-time mother. Boodoo died at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit on Tuesday, some two weeks after she gave birth to a baby girl. The baby survived and is and being cared for by her father and Boodoo’s relatives.

At the family home, her mother and siblings were too distraught to speak of the tragedy so soon after they lost another family member, her father, Lincoln Boodoo.

Lincoln, 64, who was reported missing, was found inside his white AD wagon at Ste Madeleine on July 31. At the time, his son Sherwin said thieves stripped the vehicle bare while he lay dead inside. Foul play was ruled out in his death.

Yesterday, the family was preparing for Boodoo’s funeral tomorrow. Relatives told Newsday Boodoo went into a coma after giving birth by C-section.

Miller-Meade said she was not in a position to say whether or not Boodoo regained consciousness or what was the cause of death. She said all she could confirm was that a probe had started and a report would be submitted to the Ministry of Health upon completion. Reports indicate that Boodoo had a full-term, uncomplicated pregnancy. Relatives said she went into labour two Fridays ago.

They said she walked into the hospital after her amniotic sac (water bag) broke.

However, some complications developed and her baby was delivered by C-section.
