Power, water rates to rise

THE EDITOR: The Finance Minister in his budget speech listed many things that will cost us more money. Petrol is one of them and, as we all know, once petrol goes up so do food and services.

We will have to wait and see to what extent this will impact on our daily costs, but this does not tell us about the coming water and electricity rates since those increases are up to the Regulated Industries Commission. But you can be sure that the rates of electricity and water will soon rise.

Now, if we had a forward-looking Government it would have told us that households and businesses would be given some kind of encouragement to put in solar energy and that any excess energy would be bought by T&TEC. We might also be told about wind power, but there was nothing like that.

The next thing is electric cars which, as we all know (hopefully), are displacing the gas engine. General Motors has announced it will stop making gas engines, and I wonder if our Government has given this any thought.
