T&T knocks USA off #RoadToRussia
UPDATED 10:16 pm:
The Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva was flooded once again tonight but this time with the tears of USA and their supporters.
Trinidad and Tobago shockingly won their second game in the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final Round qualifiers, beating USA 2-1 to send them home in tears with their Russia 2018 dreams dashed.
The result was a reversal of the sequence in 1989 when the Americans defeated TT 1-0 in Port of Spain when the hosts needed just a draw from their final game to qualify for the World Cup.
An own goal from Omar Gonzalez, in the 16th minute put TT in front, before a stunning striker from defender Alvin Jones, in the 37th, gave TT a shock 2-0 lead.
Borussia Dortmund 19-year-old wonderkid Christian Pulisic pulled one back in the 47th with a shot from just outside the 18-yard box. But it was not enough as TT held on for the victory.
Panama defeated Costa Rica 2-1 and Honduras beat Mexico 3-2 to finish third and fourth respectively, while United States ended in fifth spot.
Mexico and Costa Rica finished in the top two spots.

With a 2-1 victory over USA, T&T has officially booted the Americans out of the 2018 World Cup.

Combined with Honduras' 3-2 victory over Mexico and Panama's 2-1 victory over Costa Rica, USA has been demoted to the fifth spot in the qualifying group, and have lost all hopes of a 2018 World Cup.
This World Cup elimination is the USA's first since 1986.
Looks like @ussoccer has hit a dead-end on their #RoadToRussia, and they are officially out of the 2018 World Cup: https://t.co/xKJE7xXlw0

Many T&T fans celebrated the win, especially as a reminder of what the USA did to our own team some 28 years ago.
Any one remebers Nov 19 1989.... Well done warriors ...

ORIGINAL STORY:
Despite the fact that our World Cup Qualifying days are over, the Trinidad and Tobago Men's National Football team is playing to shake the opponents up.
With only three points from nine matches, T&T will finish last in the six-team grouping, after tonight's final qualifying match for our team. But even though T&T's World Cup chances are behind us, a win tonight over the United States (along with wins for both Honduras and Panama) would effectively keep the Americans out of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, ending their #RoadtoRussia.
This comes 28 years after the Americans derailed T&T's very own Road to Italy campaign, and it seems the national players have revenge on their mind.
At halftime, T&T was ahead, with an own-goal by USA's Omar Gonzalez (Gonzalez 17 og).

T&T's Alvin Jones followed with an incredible shot, taking the score up to 2-0 for T&T (Jones 37).

Starting the second half, USA amped up their game with a goal from Christian Pulisic (Pulisic 47), taking the score to 2-1.

However, we will not know for sure if the US will be knocked out of the running for the 2018 World Cup until we hear of the results of Honduras vs Mexico, and Panama vs Costa Rica.
