Murdered Chinese businesman identified

The Chinese businessman who bandits shot dead during a robbery at a bar in San Fernando on Saturday, has been identified as Li Richeng, 24.

Richeng, police said, lived at a house in Hermitage Road, Claxton Bay. For the past two weeks, Richeng was operating a gaming section inside Rhythm Masters International Bar and Lounge.

Police said that on Saturday at about 11.55 pm, two gunmen stormed the establishment located at the corner of Sutton and Mucurapo streets in San Fernando. The gunmen ordered the Chinese national to lie on the ground and began kicking and beating him. They robbed him of an undisclosed sum of cash and shot him in the back before running away.

Police said there was one other person in the establishment at the time of the incident and he was unharmed. An autopsy was expected to be performed yesterday at the Forensic Sciences Centre, St James but up to late yesterday, police were unable to confirm if it was done. Homicide Investigations Bureau (Region III) detectives are continuing investigations.
