Firemen remove the body of a truck driver from the wreck of his vehicle in Chaguanas yesterday.

An early morning accident yesterday claimed the life of a truck driver in Chaguanas when his truck landed in a deep concrete drain.

Up to late yesterday the man’s identity was not known.

Fire officers removed him from the wreck which was partially submerged in water in the drain at Southern Main Road, Edinburgh, near Francis Engineering Limited. According to police, at about 5.30 am, the man was driving in a northerly direction.

Eyewitnesses told Chaguanas police the truck veered off the road and landed several feet down into the drain. It landed on its side, trapping the lone occupant.

The truck was seen swerving on the road earlier.
