Bandits shoot and kill Chinese businessman

Bandits shot and killed a Chinese national during a robbery on Saturday night, just two weeks after he began operating gaming machines at a bar in San Fernando.

Police identified the victim only as 'Lee' and estimated he was about 19 years-old.

Investigators were trying to contact the businessman's relatives or associates up to late yesterday.

According to police, at about 11.55 pm on Saturday, two gunmen stormed the Rhythm Masters International Bar and Lounge at the corner of Sutton and Mucurapo Streets, San Fernando.

The gunmen ordered the Chinese national to lie on the ground and began kicking and beating him.

They robbed him of an undisclosed sum of cash and shot him in the back.

Police said there was one other person in the establishment at the time of the incident but did not reveal details on that person's identity, only that he was a 'local.'

Police are yet to confirm 'Lee's' real name and where he was living in Trinidad.

A party of police from the Southern Division and Homicide Bureau (Region III) among them Supt Pardasie and Insp Persad visited the scene and combed the area for the killers.

Investigators were expected to view CCTV footage in an attempt to find the killers.

Homicide Bureau Region III is continuing investigations.
