Foul play not suspected in woman’s death

Foul play is not suspected in the death of an elderly woman whose skeletal remains were found in a forested area off Milton Road in Couva. The woman identified only as Dolly was 82. Neighbours said the woman slipped into a deep depression after her husband died earlier in the month. She would pass her time, they said, by wandering around the village.

Photos of the woman’s skeletal remains and separated skull surfaced on social media on Thursday night, prompting persons to suggest that she had been decapitated.

However sources revealed that given the extent of decomposition it was possible the skull became detached from the body through the process of decompostion.

“The last time we saw her alive was almost two weeks ago. Since her husband died we would check in on her and make sure she was doing okay and had enough food. She was prone to wandering around the village so when we didn’t see her again on Tuesday evening, we didn’t think much of it,” a neighbour said.

The neighbour revealed that Dolly did not have any children and lived with her husband in a one bedroom shack.

Neighbours said that Dolly was well-liked and respected in the community and many villagers were deeply saddened after learning of her death.

Villagers discovered the body after searching for the source of a foul stench on Thursday when they happened across the remains with the skull located a short distance away.
