Priests cook to help Dominica too

Dominica will benefit from part proceeds of tomorrow’s Priests Can Cook event being held at the St John Ambulance compound opposite the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

The fund-raising event was initially planned to assist with repairs for some of the 116 primary schools managed by the Catholic Education Board of Management (CEBM)s.

A number of priests and deacons will be showcasing their culinary talents, among them, Archbishop Joseph Harris. The event is being jointly organised by the staff of Archbishop’s House and the CEBM, with support from the St Mary’s College Past Students’ Union.

A variety of dishes and desserts will be available, with one of the features being a special dish cooked on spot by Fr Kenneth Assing of Blanchisseuse parish. However, he faces a late challenge from Dominican-born, Fr Elton Letang of Barataria/El Socorro and from Fr Robert Christo, newly-appointed Vicar for Communication in the archdiocese of Port of Spain.

Lovers of roast pig will have the option of two pits where this sought-after delicacy will be prepared and cooked.

Live entertainment will be provided by ace saxophonist Pedro Lezama, the Camejo Family, Sacred Heart Girls’ RC choir, Take Five band with lead singer, Derek Patience and Desperadoes Steel Orchestra. Secure parking is available at the Stadium.

Patrons can win a number of attractive door prizes including airline tickets for two to Barbados on Caribbean Airlines plus accommodation for two persons at Radisson Barbadosa weekend.

The event goes from 6.30 pm to 10 pm. Tickets cost $250 and are available at all parish offices and at Archbishop’s House – 622-2691.
