Valorous who finished a disappointing fourth in this year’s Massy United Insurance Trinidad Derby, looks set to give a good account of himself in the Caribbean Champion Stakes.

Since the Derby run, Merlin Samlalsingh’s three-year-old Guineas winner has joined champion trainer Glenn Mendez’s barn.

In his debut run for his new trainer, Valorous will be ridden by Francisco Urdaneta in the 1800 metres race on Republic Day holiday, Monday, on e of three “big races” on the day. At gallops on Wednesday, Valorous sharpened up with a 600 metres workout together with stablemate Golden Choice which was timed in 36.2 seconds.

Fast N Furious who will line up in the Champion was also clocked in 36.2 seconds together with stablemate Electrify over the same distance.
