Man arrested for abducting, raping schoolgirl

A 31-year-old Cumuto man who was arrested in connection with the abduction and rape of a 16-year-old schoolgirl last week was charged yesterday with three offences following instructions by Director of Public Prosecutions, Roger Gaspard.

The man was charged late yesterday with sexual touching, sexual penetration and abduction.

The schoolgirl was washing clothes behind her Cumuto home on Tuesday last when she was snatched by a man who dragged her into the Cumuto forest and took her to a shack where the acts were allegedly committed. Police carried out a manhunt for the suspect, rescued the girl and detained the suspect who was found guarding the victim. Officers of the Northern Division carried out extensive enquiries and yesterday they submitted a file to Gaspard for instructions. He will appear before a Sangre Grande magistrate today.
