Woman shot in Lotto booth robbery

A 57-year-old Lotto operator is now being treated for a gunshot wound to the abdomen, after a robbery spiralled into a shoot-out between a retired police officer and bandits.

Police said that around 5 pm on Saturday, the retired officer was at his bar on Morne Coco Road, Petit Valley, when two armed men burst into the business place and announced a robbery. The retired officer challenged the men, and a shootout ensued. The men escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash which they stole from the Lotto operator. When the smoke cleared, the Lotto operator, identified as Acquron Alexander, was seen slumped over on the ground of the business place, suffering from the gunshot wound.

She was rushed to hospital, where she remained up to press time yesterday, in a serious condition.
