Mom stabbed to death while trying to stop fight involving daughter

A 44-year-old woman is now dead after she tried to stop a fight between her daughter and a 17-year-old girl.

Police said Tabatha Richards, 44, of Sixth Avenue, Malick was outside her home with her daughter, Missy, 18 at about midnight on Monday. Missy got into an argument with the 17-year-old neighbour and as the argument intensified, the girl grabbed a knife and began stabbing Missy. Richards tried to intervene but was stabbed several times. Neighbours separated the two girls and the wounded girl and her mother were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.

Richards died shortly after arrival. Her daughter is currently warded in serious condition. Police have since detained the 17-year-old and are continuing enquiries.
