Brother in court for killing brother

A 36-year-old man appeared before a magistrate yesterday charged with murdering his younger brother and wounding their 71-year-old mother.

Avalon Thompson, a labourer of Lachoos Road, Penal, appeared before Magistrate Ava Vandenberg-Bailey in the Siparia First Magistrate’s Court to answer to the charges. It is alleged that on August 15 he chopped to death 27-year-old Paul Mark Teeluck at the family’s home. His mother Dhanrajayia Thompson was wounded when she allegedly intervened. She was taken to the San Fernando General Hospital where she underwent emergency surgery.

The charges were laid by Cpl Sunil Ramoutar of the Homicide Region Three. The case was adjourned to September 21.
