Keshorn 5th in Zurich Diamond League

Trinidad and Tobago’s double Olympic medallist Keshorn Walcott finished outside the medal positions yesterday at the Diamond League meet in Zurich, Switzerland. Walcott, who finished seventh at the World Championships less than two weeks ago, started off with a powerful 85.11m throw on his first attempt which had him in the gold medal spot.

But it was a case of depreciating returns for the Toco-born athlete who failed to build on his strong first throw and slid to fifth spot after round six. Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, who copped silver in London at the World Championships, won gold with an effort of 88.50m. German Thomas Rohler (86.59m) and Finland’s Tero Pitkamaki (86.57m) were second and third respectively.
