Three men shot on Besson Street

Three unidentified men have been hospitalised at the Port of Spain General Hospital yesterday, after they were shot while working on a wall on Besson Street, a stone’s throw away from a police station, and the homicide headquarters.

Police sources told Newsday the shooting occurred at about 2 pm on Friday. According to reports, the men were working on a wall at the St Paul Recreation Ground when they were approached by gunmen and shot several times. One man, a security guard working at the Bethlehem Girls RC School, said he was at his booth when he heard a volley of gunshots which sounded like it came from a fully-automatic weapon.

Police were alerted and officers of Besson Street Police Station responded. The officers found the three men, who were lying on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds, and took them to hospital.

The three men are said to be in a serious but stable condition.

Investigations into the shooting are ongoing.
